Obey your leaders and submit to their authority.
They keep watch over you as men who must
give an account.  Obey them so that their
work will be a joy, not a burden, for that
would be of no advantage to you.

PASTOR'S MESSAGE

Dear friends,

Have you ever wondered what Paul meant in 2 Timothy 1:6 "for this reason, I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God which is in you." It's a good phrase to remember. Timothy was disillusioned in the Christian work and his enthusiasm in the work was beginning to die. The flame was going out and like a fire that needs to be kept alight, the flame has to be regularly stoked up and fed with fresh fuel.

This reminds us as Christians of our need to fan the flame. The flame of our love for Christ needs to be stoked up. Our enthusiasm for the Lord and his work needs to be tended and stirred. How can we catch the flame? Daily reading of the Scriptures and prayerful meditation provide the necessary spiritual fuel to keep the fire burning brightly. Self examination day by day, coming into regular contact with God's people at places of worship, listening to the ministry of the word - all these things help to keep the flame alight with the aid of the spirit of God.

It is necessary to keep our enthusiasm alive in Christ. My prayer is that we will all know something of the burning desire in our hearts, just as the two men on the road to a Emmaus said, "did not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?" (Luke 24:32)

Yours

Tim
