Just a thought as we rapidly approach Easter.

We are rapidly approaching Easter and it is natural for our thoughts to focus on the great events that occupied the life of the Lord at this time.
Richard de Haan is a favourite writer with me because of his stories from real life that eloquently illustrate Biblical truth. One such story from real life feature a husband and wife who were walking across a railway line when the wife slipped and her foot caught fast between the metal rail and the wooden sleeper. Try as hard as they could the foot remained fast stuck.
Suddenly, they heard the sound of a train, rapidly approaching. They redoubled their efforts to free the trapped foot, but it remained fast stuck. The train thundered towards them with brakes screaming and whistle shrieking, with little slackening of the trains pace. Just before the train struck, a witness heard the husband cry, “I’ll stay with you!” That act was great courage, but it was even greater as love.
This true story reminds me of the Lord Jesus Christ and his sacrifice on the Cross. His was great courage to bear the pain inflicted on Him. However, the greatest truth from Calvary’s Cross is the astonishing love exhibited to us by the Lord’s death. Paul explains that love in astonishing term in Ephesians 5 v 25 –
‘ Husbands, love your wives, just as CHRIST also loved the church and gave Himself for her’.
John records the Lord Jesus as saying, “Greater love has no man than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends”. John 15 v 13.
Christ on the Cross of Calvary exhibits the profound marvel of the love of GOD. Indeed, Paul states in Rom 5 v 8 “But GOD demonstrates His own love towards us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us”. It is my prayer that we may all know the love of the LORD JESUS CHRIST at this coming Easter time.
